The prevention of infectious diseases is one of the main objectives of Public Health. Vaccinations represent an exceptional discovery that has changed the face of medical history.
Thanks to the use of vaccines in medical practice, smallpox has been eradicated, tetanus, poliomyelitis, diphtheria have almost disappeared and viral diseases such as hepatitis B, measles, rubella, mumps and diseases have been significantly reduced bacterial such as meningitis. Paradoxically, however, vaccinations are "victims of their success": since the diseases that have been eradicated or significantly reduced are no longer visible, the perception of the importance of vaccinations has decreased, while alarming and worrying messages on the use of vaccines and news without scientific basis is spread.
The Italian project "VaccinarSì" is an initiative that involves recognized european experts in the field and which aims to offer the population and health professionals useful, valid elements and, above all, accompanied by scientific evidence, to be able to choose (in science and conscience) to protect their own health and that of their children with all recommended vaccinations.
